So unfortunately I haven’t gotten to do much on that front 🙁
It’s like I know where all of the moving parts, but I have insane schedule that will not allow me to fully get started with the process, let alone the proper space for it. The copper cavities I have made may not even work due to them not having nickel plating. Lulubell toys ended up stepping in and getting the tooling made and the toys produced at this point.
I really want to get to that next level though. Here is the furthest progress I made:

Luckily there have been people watching my videos and have built off of them. I highly recommend people check out Official Toy’s instagram: https://www.instagram.com/official.toy/
They are out of Slovenia, and have been trying out these techniques as well.

We cannot wait to see how this New Friends series pans out! Please keep us posted on launch details!

One of my Grails would have to be any of the toys from the 3A Tomorrow Kings collection, but specifically the Seven Bones Kyoku. I’ve been a fan of Ashley Wood ever since I started reading the Spawn comics as a kid. His art is gritty and messy and went against everything I knew that a comic book “should” be, but it has this fantastic allure to it that was a perfect match for the antihero qualities of Spawn.

The Tomorrow Kings toys are a beautiful interpretation of Ashley’s concepts, building them at 1/6 scale with realistic clothing, and they have this future-apocalyptic-urban-samurai vibe that just looks badass. Plus with 30 points of articulation, you could literally make a stop motion movie with one of these characters. Looking at eBay, it’s not entirely out of reach for me, but it’s still a bit higher than my current budget. Also, now that 3A Toys is done, I expect the value of their work to increase over time.

My grail is always the Blackout False Friends by coarse. Just priced outta my reach, for now.

I filled my love of False Friends with the Reignited Monochrome edition, but it does sit in storage due to no room but at least I know I have it to enjoy when I find the space.

99.5% of my toy collection is in a Uhaul storage unit after a move from Chicago. But, here is a collection of resin toys I make with my friends.

It’s actually pretty cool! Maybe it’s a start where Funko pop collectors can appreciate more designer toys rather than just all the characters they know.
Just wanna share my latest sofubi addition! Bear Guy by Tekxtoys

Just a random toy I HAD to have!

Short-time lurker first time poster here,
I’ve been a fan of designer toys for over 5 years but have only recently really been paying close attention to everything this artform has to offer, and it seems like Colorado is building up a designer toy scene. Back in May we had the 2nd Bombastic Plastic show at Spectra Art Gallery (organized by Neil Ewing), In July we had a Bomb Shark Custom show at the Vape Loft curated by Mr Mars Studios, and again in August there was a Solo Josh Mayhem show at the Crown Collection in Denver.
I’m really excited to see more of these designer toy shows happening in my home town but I rarely catch wind of what’s going on until the very last minute! Does anybody know of other upcoming shows in Colorado or know of a resource where I can stay updated on Colorado toy events?
This small part of the toy industry is a bit of an anomaly but a super fun community. Not a easy or a straightforward hustle for sure. you really have to be good at improvising and navigating multiple tasks and people.
I studied industrial design and product design and sort of fell into toys by accident out of sheer desperation for work. It is a long story probably best suited for a campfire some whiskey and a banjo. Stop by and say hi at Dcon,
wow, thank you so much! that means a lot coming from you, I have been following your company since the horsies of the apocalypse. meeting artists is the reason I moved to LA, I’ll be sure to socialize at this event, I really wonder about the people’s lives. So many industries/jobs are more straightforward, if you want to be a lawyer, you can find out exactly how to do that.
If you don’t mind me asking, how did you get into making designer toys?
Is there ever too much of a good thing? Perhaps that will depend on which side of the fence you sit when it comes to the TEQ63. It is definitely dividing opinion from what we are seeing throughout the social media channels within the Designer Toy community.
Now this may not include all, but we think it includes most, we have pulled together a list of TEQ63 releases over the past 2.5 years. Thanks to our pals at Trampt.com for helping with collecting this information.
