With all that’s going on in the world right now, there’s a glimmer of hope as DKE Toys is hosting a LIVE virtual event in place of the cancelled 2020 San Diego Comic-Con, July 22-26, 2020. For your enjoyment, DKE has created #DKECON to fill the gaping hole in your cancelled convention season. The pandemic has provided the unusual opportunity of inviting everyone we know to our San Diego Comic-Con “booth”. Finally, we can enjoy all the bootleg style designer toys in the palm of your hands without having to set foot at SDCC!

This is the first time we are showing figures by Rendar Art. Matt Rendar aka Matthew Klein specializes in customizing production figures in modern military garb. There are a lot of straight-up customizers out there and they likely existed in greater numbers before the “bootleggers” but he does them in such amazing detail and in such cool custom packaging that we couldn’t pass these up.
Matt has an interesting story. He was always a creative guy. His father was an animator for Walt Disney and Warner Brothers, but Matt never saw art as a career. After 9/11 he joined the army and served two tours in Iraq receiving a purple heart. Upon his return, he became a forensics officer for the NYPD. But because of his ability to draw, he found his way to another department and is now one of only three NYPD sketch artists.

Joshua’s Toybox is back with his first SDCC release. Miniwok Adventure features (4) 1.25” iridescent dichroic carded resin figures from his Miniwok Adventure Board Game. The 6×9 backing card is a collage of hand printed linocuts and chine-collé. The piece also comes with a rollable multicolor mini die, shake it to experience some of the action from the board game.
Bio: Joshua James Grossberg’s love of toys started him experimenting with molding and casting at a very early age. His first carded toy, a take on the DC character ‘Proty’, met with some success and encouraged him to take his art further. After two years of trial and error, perfecting his craft, he started Joshua’s Toybox and began to explore the resin toy community. His first official release ‘Mr. Evil Mind’, sold out at Designer Con 2017. Joshua’s work has been called “gorgeous”, “cool” and “clever.” His 2018 release, ‘Assistant Copy Boy Luke’, was reviewed on The Suckhour: Episode 44. Recently, his ‘My Little Terminator’ was included in the Robot Remix show at sp[a]ce gallery in Pasadena.
