Andrew Byham x Collect & Display: The Pocket Walrus

byham

Collect & Display are featuring a new figure from the Byham studioThe Pocket Walrus – this time a collaboration with Andrew’s youngest son ….
There is an island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean inhabited entirely by animals who cannot resist shiny shiny objects. One of these animals is The Pocket Walrus, who stowed away on a passing cruise ship and ended up in England. Much like the urban fox he’s become quite bold and at ease in the human world, mostly living inside sofas and armchairs. We can only assume they’re attracted to their new habitat by the shiny coins that inevitably fall out of people’s pockets and disappear down the back of the cushions.

The figures are 4.5 cm tall, cast in resin and painted in acrylics. The design originated from Andrew’s 13 year old son, who is the only one to ever see a live pocket walrus while trying to top up his pocket money by searching down the sofa for shrapnel. The one he spotted was clinging on to a 20p piece and wouldn’t let go.

He comes in three varieties, Green, Grey and Cold Cast Copper. Each Pocket Walrus is cast and painted to order, the process will be filmed and posted to YouTube so each new owner can see how he was born. – How cool is that! Love how Andrew brings these ideas to life!

Check it out these very fine pieces at Collect and Display
