A Little Stranger (Holly Stanway) been busy knocking out art work left right and centre (literary) with her custom Fo’ Chisel. Taking up the challenge of chiseling the wood figure by new company Fo’Chisel. Holly presented her piece called Talisman of Divination.
A recently unearth artefact from a forgotten era, this ancient talisman assist its owner in divining the future and serves as a token of good luck and prosperity.
Her idea centred around a fortune telling device, each side of the head representing a relevant question about the future: Love, Death, Sight, Sun and Moon. After designing the symbols she marked them out on each face of the head, before carving, painting, staining and finally gold leafing specific details on each one. Holly decorated the body with more carving and painting, and installing two black crystals along with more gold leaf. Finally I aged the whole piece, adding faux moss and dirt to make the piece feel like an ancient object.
(My personal favourite side of the face…. but who doesn’t like skulls)
