What has everyone asked Santa for for x-mas?

My family do  secret santa every year. We’re a realistic & practical bunch and over the years we’ve gotten into the habit of writing wishlists to share! I’m also realistic enough to know, when it comes to toys & art my family are rather oblivious 😛 Usually I don’t request much in that regard besides the usual funko stuff(and I did add a few pops to my wishlist this year :P), but I branched out with a couple of small art items this year!
A magnet by Chet Zar https://chetzar.bigcartel.com/product/gas-mask-magnet & a art print from Grumble Toy https://grumbletoy.storenvy.com/products/1005612-ah-ha
I honestly doubt I’ll receive either, but I threw them on my wishlist anyway. Maybe I’ll get lucky 😛

I’d love to know what everyone else is hoping for this year, or any little family holiday anecdotes or traditions you’d like to share! Lets get into the holiday spirit!

So, my Clockwork Pino from Fools Paradise keeps falling over…. had it for almost a year without any issue, I finally get around to dusting it & I guess it’s balance has died…. 3 times it fell in the last week before I moved it to a lower shelf. Even museum wax wasn’t enough to keep it standing! A fellow collector says his fell as well & broke his Jiminy cricket when it did!
Anyone else have any toys that give them grief?
I have a handful of others that take some major effort to keep standing! But my Clockwork Pino is in my top 3 most expensive toys… I’m quite annoyed.

Second toy party! I’ll add more photos later(currently on my pc, most of my photos are on my mobile :P)
Tragically it rained & the humidity stopped the toys from drying properly so me & my sister didn’t finish. We’re planning a at-home painting get together to finish! It was another fun event!

Awesome read, As a Collector that Started off with Funko Pops and was Introduced to the Designer world of Toys by Finding Superplastic and with SP taking over my collecting interest, I think if Funko had a booth at DCon it would have to be similar to all other vendors, no special accommodations for them, lots of vendors had Pops for sale so it makes no difference if Funko has a booth there or not Pops have already made it in.

I’m aaaaalmost done producing a small run of these silly “kits” I made as part of an art vending machine project. In addition to the vending machines, I’ve decided to also sell these on my own site. However, the one thing I haven’t prepared for is the shipping & handling process. I was hoping some makers out there might be able to help me find solutions for the following questions:

    1. How do I package these up without spending a ton? The kit boxes are made from 100lb cardstock which is okay, but I feel that a simple bubble mailer might be too flimsy to protect the boxes and they could get crushed in the process. They’re only about the size of a pack of cigarettes, so I’m trying to find a packaging solution that is still pretty small in size.

    2. What is the cheapest rate I can get for shipping these items? Each kit weighs well under 1lb, so I think flat rate shipping might cost more than what I need. I also want to be able to track these items when I mail them.

    3. Any other tips or tricks I should know when dealing with shipping & handling?

Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it!

I’d say it’s very hard to make a living out of designer toys, but trying part time at first is a good start I think! If you can continue to grow from there, who knows.

There certainly some artists that are now full time, but more as artists with toys on the side, or having to concentrate more on design work these days than design but started in the art toy world. Like Tado, David Horvath or Meomi.

Not everyone can do a Kaws or Tokidoki. But that doesn’t mean you can’t be successful in your own little way 🙂 concentrate on you and your own style, have passion and that’s what will draw the fans to you. Quality not quantity 🙂

Hi everyone in TCC welcomes to “Tips time by FMC EP.2”

today we gonna share some of our technique about how to smooth your model or designer toys surface  😀

First of all, SMOOTH is kind of a grail everyone knows about this but some of them can’t reach there yet today I’m gonna share some tips for you guys to reach there easier.

In this case, we gonna look at the head of our designer toys “Gramps” let’s see how we smooth it  😀

    1.Type of wax we use
In this day we have a lot of option to use what we gonna use in our piece right all the different type have it’s own pros and cons but let’s look at what we use this time

We use a castilene wax but why?
Because it’s HARD, castilene wax has an especially hard component when compared to other types of wax and it’s really good when you want to sculpt something that like that have symmetry and want it to smooth. But for the cons, it’s not suited for some work that you want to create some particular surface such as a cloth simulate or a jean’s texture on it’s because it’s too hard. As you can see in the picture below it’s quite alright but not really what we call smooth.

    2.Mould to smooth detailing
We do a Silicone Moulding with our TV head prototype first just a little bit of layers is fine because what we wanting is Resin Moulding and this is the tips here

For the smooth purpose, we don’t use a regular resin to do this process we use a “POLY PUTTY”a traditional car use for this process because it’s easy for do detailing and smoothing with these but when we gonna use this, we have to make its fluid and attenuate it a bit with Styrene Monomer but it really works great for a prototype creating not an actual piece though.

    3. Make it’s smooth
And finally, you just have to make it’s smooth. we use dry and wet scrub together with a lot of levels of sandpaper and another tool is sanding sponge for smoothing a curve surface

    4. Check the result and do it again and again
When we have done the sanding process we always check how smooth it is with a primer. Just paint your piece with a grey primer and it’s going to let you see if your piece is really smooth all right if it’s doesn’t then you gonna sanding it again until it’s smooth  😀

Lastly Sanding is really a lot of work and pain in the ass but it’s really can tell the different about the piece. This is one of the most crucial factors that we consider

Kickstarter being run by a younger member of the toy community(his father set up the kickstarter). He’s hoping to have his toy made in vinyl!
