From illustrations transformed into a resin figure, Wisut Ponnimit and Trendy Gallery presented to you last year the adorable “MAMUANG WALK” Created by Thai cartoonist, animator, illustrator and musician Wisut Ponnimit. “Mamuang is a famous character who made her first appearance in the comic book “Everybodyeverything”.
The little girl is named Mamuang, which means mango in Thai, in relation to her hair whose shape evokes the form of the stone fruit. The character became well-known in Thailand through a series of Line application stickers. Millions of people downloaded a Mamuang sticker because of its cuteness. Now Wisut Ponnimit is back and what a way to start the new year with a new Mamuang art collectable!
To celebrate the festive season of joy including Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day, Trendy Gallery brings “Mamuang,” a cartoon character of a cute girl by Wisut Ponnimit, to give everyone bright energy with UOY MA I (I AM YOU), 2022, an exclusive sculpture from his latest exhibition, which is currently on display at River City Bangkok.
This time, Mamuang wasn’t wearing the yellow dress that everyone is familiar with. However, she appears in 12 different colours! Wisut developed this work for Mamuang, who wore different coloured costumes and joined hands to resemble staring in a mirror to symbolize the concept of self-reflection as a result of seeing something different. “Your perspective on life is sometimes impacted by how you see the world” Furthermore, Wisut asks you to consider the possibility that “You’re Mamuang!”
