After discovering Korea based artist Ji-Young of Dressy Doll way back in 2016 we have witnessed Ji establish herself in the art collectable world with TEARY, Wai, Lady Jan and more. Catching the eye of A Good Company and luxury department store HARVEY NICHOLS to land a solo exhibition “Do You Believe in Magic” Showcasing the beautiful art from JiYoung. The exhibition features the all new vinyl Teary & Baby Moani and original paintings, plus merchandise from JiYoung!
For me, I would say “Yes, I believe.”
The magic didn’t happen around me,
I made it happen.
Some magic happens when you meet someone.
My magic happens when I am drawing my dreams and my imagination.
Even in the real world, magic exists.
We don’t do magic; we are magic.
– JiYoung
With a vision to bring creative arts to a broader audience, Harvey Nichols is excited to partner up with A Good Company to announce the latest collaboration 【 HARVEY NICHOLS X DRESSY DOLL – “Do you believe in magic?” 】, highlighting Dressy Doll which is created by the Korean artist Son JiYoung and renowned for her dreamy and adorable creations. This exclusive pop-up will be held at Harvey Nichols Pacific Place and Harvey Nichols Landmark stores from today until 11th September respectively, featuring limited-edition resin figures handmade by the artist, symbolic acrylic paints, as well as a curated edit of captivating merchandise. Besides, the Dressy Doll Vinyl Figure – Teary Original Version will be exclusively launched for HARVEY NICHOLS Pacific Place, while the Dressy Doll Vinyl Figure – Teary Black & Gold Version is exclusive first sales for HARVEY NICHOLS Landmark pop-up.
Brought to life from imagination, Dressy Doll imbues a sense of magic in the real world. Drawing time or space that did not exist in reality was a magical experience for Son, this translates through the whimsical art pieces in the collection. Thus, presenting the conceptual theme of the collaboration – “Do you believe in magic?”
Inspired by the tear of joyfulness, Son debuted her most recognizable fairy series ‘Teary’ in 2017. The Dressy Doll collection consists of several charming, jolly, and incredibly whimsical characters that convey the artist’s wish to spread the joyful happiness of dreams. While ‘Moani’ symbolizes ‘breeze of scent’ in the Hawaiian language, ‘Lady Jan’ and ‘Little Bird’ signify the preciousness of ordinary everyday life.
With a number of exhibitions held in various fields – art toy customization, brand collaborations, illustration, detailed and vividly-coloured pop art, Son has been awarded the first prize at MEDICOM TOY X COFFEE BEAN BEARBRICK DESIGN CONTEST.
Previously only available online in Korea, this exclusive collaboration with Harvey Nichols launches Dressy Doll to physical stores and the local audience for the very first time. Besides the art figures (HK$1,400 – HK$3,800) hand-blessed by Son herself, the curated edit is comprised of water paintings (HK$1,500), vivid acrylic paintings (HK$4,500 – Hk$19,500) and lifestyle merchandise including an aroma stone, mood lamp, music box and more.
In addition, a customisable vinyl art toys painting workshop will be held as an opening event at Harvey Nichols Pacific Place on 20 Aug (Saturday), while Harvey Nichols Landmark is going to host another session of workshop on 3 Sep (Saturday).
