Jacquelyn of badjujutoys sent in some info of her first ever soft vinyl figure “Guu”! a Round of applause for Jacquelyn for turning Guu from a drawing into a soft vinyl production. We have to be honest we thought it Guu looked like Rangeron from Shoko Nakazawa x T9G be an SD version. Anyway, resemblance might be there or inspiration but after reading Jacquelyn Guu story, we will be leaving rice wine around as offerings to keep Guu happy from now on.
I am excited to bring you my first soft vinyl toy featuring my own character, the rice eating yōkai – GUU. I love mythical creatures and often finds inspiration in subjects such as faeries, kaijus, and monsters, which is how I came up with this folklore yōkai, Guu.
Guu, is a creature that resides around rice fields and farms in close proximity to humans. The name “Guu” is inspired by the sound it makes when its stomach rumbles. Guu is known to grow bigger in size and cause trouble to others when hungry. So, people sometimes leave rice balls or rice wine around as offerings to keep them happy. It is believed that a well-fed Guu will bring blessings to those around them.
Following urban development projects, Guu is becoming a rarer sight for us, have you met one yet? –badjujutoys
