Following our announcement earlier that RXSEVEN took down the Martian Toys Custom Dunny ToyConUK competition, with 17.9% of the 3000+ votes, we grabbed a couple of words with the Texan winner to get the insight in to his thoughts of winning and his impending visit to London on April 9th!
TTC: First of all congratulations on your win today. How does it feel to win the inaugural Martian Toys Custom Dunny ToyConUK competition?
RX: Aside from the hangover, I’m really happy with the way things turned out. I couldn’t have done it without the help of my friends, family, and support from the scene. I really love the energy and support Martian Toys gives to the community. This was an awesome opportunity for me and others to get exposure, and I’m thankful for that.
TTC: Your work has been on The Toy Chronicle radar for some time now, but it’s possible that there are people that don’t know your name, please introduce yourself and let folk know where they can find you on social media etc.
RX: I’ve been really hesitant with letting people know who I am, but lately I’ve been getting careless. My name is Ricardo Soto and I’m from Dallas, Texas. You can find me on Instagram: @rxseven and most recently Facebook: Rx SE7EN. I also have a website which is SE7EN1.COM
TTC: Your work has a very unique style, which we absolutely love at TTC, what inspires you when you’re creating a new piece?
RX: My pieces play loosely with the idea of “Life after death” and I continue to use the juxtaposition between the both. In a way I’m creating a universe where these creations can coexist and relate. I plan to elaborate more on that in the future.
TTC: We find that your work always have a ‘Production’ finish about them. Any secret plans for a Production release in the near future?
RX: I have ideas and I’m still working on the concept, but I can tell you I’ll be pushing more original sculpts rather than platform creations this year 😉
TTC: Now that you’re heading to London for ToyConUK 2016, what plans do you have in place to woo the UK crowd?
RX: I’ll be bringing some customs, but mainly original resin pieces. Keep your eyes peeled for updates.
TTC: Will you join The Toy Chronicle for a well deserved beer at the official Aftershow Party after ToyConUK has finished?
RX: Of course! I can’t wait to meet all the artist and the community out there!
Congratulations again! We can’t wait to see you again in London on April 9th!
The Toy Chronicle are incredibly happy that RXSEVEN will be heading to the UK shores this year. We were lucky enough to meet RX whilst at DCon last year. His work is on a different level to most out there at the minute. Everything about his releases are special. If you’re attending ToyConUK in April, you are definitely in for a treat.
Please go send your best wishes to RXSEVEN on Facebook and Instagram!
