AllRightsReserved new release in collaboration with Japanese artist Yusuke Hanai. presenting his first-ever wood sculpture and bottle! “DOWN BUT NOT OUT” portrays an attitude to life during a struggling moment.
With previous experience creating 3D figures of his characters, Hanai is teaming up with AllRightsReserved to take his artwork and craftsmanship to the next level to produce his first-ever wood sculpture “DOWN BUT NOT OUT”. The 19″-tall sculpture is the artist’s largest 3D artwork to date.
The relatively compact sculpture fits perfectly on a shelf. “I hope it makes you laugh whenever you glance at this failed guy, drinking in desperation,” comments Hanai. The accompanying 8.7″-tall wood bottle is a life-size version of the bottle held by the figure, which also serves as a home décor art piece on its own.

The implication of an attitude towards the intricacy of life In contrast to the form composed of Hanai’s signature simple lines, “DOWN BUT NOT OUT” is an intricate narrative artwork about how one should face his or her life when the going gets tough.
Titled “DOWN BUT NOT OUT” – an idiom that implies temporarily incapacitated but not permanently defeated – the piece portrays a guy who is encountering downs in life but is still fighting hard for opportunities
to move upward again. “Our countless silly mistakes and repeated failures drive us away from the brilliant life path we imagined for ourselves when we were still kids. However upsetting, whenever I hang out with my friends over a drink, teasing each other about our respective failures, our shared laughter gives us renewed energy for the next day,” says the artist, who claims that he could never have imagined this
kind of fulfilment when he was a child. “Failures, unpleasant experiences, loss of precious treasures, the global pandemic…There are many hardships that we all have to go through in life. Yet life must go on.
Take a break, then Get up and Move Forward.” This was Hanai’s incentive to create “DOWN BUT NOT OUT”.
The hand-painted “DOWN BUT NOT OUT” wood sculpture is limited to an edition of 15. . The serial-numbered wood bottle will be released globally on DDT Store in a limited edition of 200pcs on 10th August 2020 11 AM Hong Kong time. Priced at USD$300 at ddtstore.com
