I’d love to see them get some of the older guys that haven’t been doing much lately get back in to it. Pete Fowler was a great start. Would love to see

    Gary Taxali
    Gary Baseman
    Barry Mcgee
    Jeff Soto

To be honest I think the benefits of bringing new people into the scene is worth it. Yes funko brings long lines to the event and their ethos might not exactly align with designer toy scene in general but I thinkj if handled correctly the could basically just create a seperate section of the convention for it so it doesn’t conflict with the scene we as collectors know and love but still might bring more people into it, which in my opinion is a good thing. of course, i likely will never make it out there regardless so who cares what I say, lol

I don’t mind the overall concept of the two accounts although I do feel it’s a bit derivative of gorillaz. My biggest issue is the social media influencer aspect. It takes it from a fun way to expand the brand into a cringey situation for me. These feelings as amplified for me, especially after this announcement that they are releasing a limited figure on a mediocre rating brand new shopping app that doesn’e really seem to have anything to do with our scene in general. It all seems a bit out of touch to me.

I have more of a problem with Ron English slapping a grin on every single license he can find than I do with Funko in general. I think this seems to be a step in the direction both companies want to go. More designer for Funko, more commercial For popaganda.
