A new level of the term puff puff pass! Ron English x Compound x Made By Monsters join forces to present you all with Ganja Grin! Hold your horses as it ain’t just one release. Compound’s version of Ron English’s ‘Shocking Sunflower’ and ‘Growing Grin’ sculptures gets various weed strain editions like Purple Haze and Sour Diesel. Legendary artist Ron English has teamed up once again with cultural ambassador Set Free, creator of Compound, and Made by Monsters toy maker Chris Kong to release ‘Ganja
Grin’; Compound’s version of Ron English’s ‘Shocking Sunflower’ and ‘Growing Grin’ sculptures. English’s twisted parody of SpongeBob SquarePants features an all-new marijuana sprouted stem, with corresponding colors inspired by popular weed strains: Purple Haze and Sour Diesel. ‘Ganja Grin’ also has a special effect feature and becomes a whole new “strain” under a black light. Additionally, Compound themed versions will offer gold and platinum colorways, with an alternating grin and flower pot details.On Wednesday, April 11th Set Free hosted a ‘Compound Conversations’ intimate panel with his collaborative culprit, Ron English, at New York’s swankiest hotel, SoHo House to unveil ‘Ganja Grin’ along with English’s 1 of 1 ‘Ganja Grin’ painting as the stage backdrop. The close quarter’s creative talk charted this partnership’s ongoing journey and explicitly highlighted the makings of the ‘Ganja Grin’ series. “Everybody says marijuana loses your memory, but I say–wait a minute, what were we talking about”-Ron English. A limited run of prints of English’s painting will be available for purchase on Friday, April 20.
Finally, to complete the toy experience, long time Hip Hop aficionado Set Free put together ‘Set Free presents: Compound Smoke Project’; a mini EP with a track featuring Dave East, Styles P, Smoke DZA, Curren$y produced by duo Buda and Grandz and Set Free, and a Westside Gunn and Conway produced track by Alchemist. Set Free quotes that “For years Hip Hop, art, and marijuana have had a tight-knit relationship and there has never been a project to bind the trio and celebrate through each facet of creative expression”.
