We are well into the new year and StrangeCat Toys is ready to launch their first custom show of the year “Misappropriated Icon”. The show will be held at Redefine Gallery featuring some amazing artists all putting their twist on a platform. 13+ artists using a reproduction 16” Kaws dissected piece (bootleg in our words, shockingly enough).
As much as we love Kaws dissected, having a custom show which features a bootleg will 100% cause controversy. Personally, I wouldn’t supply bootlegs for an event like this. Either way, you can’t deny how good some of the customs have turned out. whatever your option is we are sure StrangeCat Toys has their own view of things.
*Please note StrangeCat Toys will be giving out royalties to each custom sold to KAWS.

The question is why use a KAWs figure in the first place? to have a well established Gallery that supports a bootleg can’t be right, right? Did the artist fully know what reproduction meant before signing up for this? Anyway
I still think the show will be really nice with all the good artists but it could leave a sour taste as the fun knowing that it’s all based on a fake platform. Maybe no one will care if it’s a fake base and just enjoy the art.
Heres a few teasers of what you can expect at the show.
We’ve just got off the phone with StrangCat and have an update on what sparked the idea. inprimewetrust gifted a custom fake KAWs bootleg to StrangeCat and the idea of a show just snowballed. As long as non of these peices are sold as the real deal and collectors know the base is a fake.
