The name MIRAITOWA is based on the Japanese words “mirai“, meaning “future”, and “towa”, meaning “eternity”, representing the wish that the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will lead to a future of everlasting hope in the hearts of everyone around the world.
Someity is named after someiyoshino, a type of cherry blossom, and it is also intended to refer to the English phrase “so mighty”.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the 2020 Summer Olympic Games, scheduled to open in Tokyo on July 24th, have been postponed to 2021. However you don’t have to wait that long to play with the beloved mascots in soft vinyl form.
That’s right, Miratowa and Someity are already available to pre-order at the official Olympic Store. They measure about 130mm tall, hand made in Japan featuring pure sofubi casts.
Each one available to pre-order at tokyo2020shop.jp for ¥3,300 each.
