We crease a castle out of homework pages,
its pencil lines fading, then darkening again
while unsolved math problems still sprawl on scrap paper,
their crooked numbers like unfinished verses.
We always cut childhood into uneven shapes:
all tucked between the lines of draft paper.
Years later, when we shake them loose,
those afternoons rumpled, then smoothed
Still rustle softly in the back of drawers.
Before the stars awaken,
and while the day still clings to the sky,a hush of light coils at my feet like warmth that forgot to leave with yesterday.
The colors so tender they seem to sigh, so distant they feel like memory.
