From 22nd to the 29 of November, coinciding with the celebration of the International Puppet Festival in the city of Tolosa (Spain), “Titirijai 2014”,
ART TOY GAMA Collective have organised at GKO Gallery http://www.gko-gallery.com –Tolosa-, an ART TOY exhibition entitled “ The truth of Pinocchio. A different way of storytelling” and involves worldwide artists from Japan, USA, Italy, France, Chile, Colombia, Argentina, Canada, Indonesia and Spain. This is an Artistic Project related to Art Toys in addition to artistic photography, illustration, animation and other technologies also linked to this type of contemporary design.
The collective have selected the character of Pinocchio because they believe that is a character that gives a lot of play and Pinocchio has been much talked about and therefore opens up a range of possibilities. His story can be interpreted in a thousand ways, each reader interprets it in their own way … and above all it is a more interesting character for adults than for children … despite what you think … as some Art Toys.
Who are Art Toy GAMA collective?
In short, ART TOY GAMA Collective aims to be a Worldwide Network of talent Art Toy Community. And we are people with experience and own knowledge, with an international vocation, and searching for new creative challenges and experiment and innovate … Promoting dialogue and interaction between the members and other disciplines and artists around the world in order to generate collective creative experimentation processes and exceptional Artistic Projects based on innovation”

Someone said that “the artist lies to tell the truth”. A character with canvas – head showing Pinocchio maybe can only have as a nose that brush with which to paint his lies. In this way the work has a double reading from the perspective of the art world. Are his lies a perversion of innocence or a trick to the survival of that? In his chest you can read “Lie Young”, a play on words referring to the famous phrase “Die young and leave a beautiful corpse” (Die young and stay pretty). In this case we could say “lie young and keeps correct appearances.” LIE YOUNG BABY! I like the contrast between the sweetness and violence, and try to mix both. For Pinocchio I have tried to show his darker side, while creating a sense of tenderness to the character. It is a wooden doll, which is not accepted by society, and as we don´t let him to be free, he decides to cut the legs as in reality he does not need them because we will never let him walk alone. It is made entirely in 3D, modeling, illuminated, and rendered. I recollected Alex of “A Clockwork Orange”. Thus, I took the Bowler hat and begun to design it as a boy in white clothes. However, he has too neared to Alex. I brought him close to an impression of original Pinocchio and designed it again. His false eyelashes are remains of Alex. While he looks like the Disney character we all love and is in denial most times, he has a dark side that he hides behind his adorable smile. He is a murderer….his victim….. TREES. His resentful side has made him a danger to the trees in the woods and anyone or anything getting in his way…….HE MUST BE STOPPED! He has constructed his clothing out of trees and if not brought to justice, the trees will one day be GONE FOREVER. By Jaime Fernández Muro www.jf-muro.com www.vimeo.com/jfmuro NAUGHTY BOY For the realization of Pinocchio project I was inspired by a character that transmits by the way of looking the mischief and ruin that is the character himself, innocent eyes but also a suspicious look. I have used blue pencil to sketch basic format and colored on the computer using photoshop to generate more volume and light gaming. What I think it gives more value to my work Pinocchio is the ability to convey the personality of a character by its way of looking and his general humble appearance and humble look but at the same time hiding the dark and evil side. I wanted to show my interpretation of this book. Pinocchio acts like a kid with many faces. He’s selfish, full of conscience only when he gets into trouble, makes many promises, lies all the time, but he’s also very naive and a big dreamer (and murdered the talking grasshopper). So I tried to show that using two kinds of masks. An evil one and a good one, huge lollipop, prison trousers, and making him sit on his conscience. By Judas Arrieta www.judasarrieta.com https://www.facebook.com/JUDASARRIETAZ PINOCCHIO Mixed media on paper. Handmade. 2014 I am interested in the time of the creation of the puppet and the passage of his death. Pinocchio comes alive while the carpenter Geppetto is carving him in his workshop. When we speak of an end, some people have wanted to see his death as a punishment for “his many faults.” Others explain that Pinocchio was not hanged for his “numerous failures” but what happened is that two swindlers, the fox and the cat, tried by all means to steal the gold coins to the child, until at last they catch him and decide to hang him in a large oak. Fortunately for the children, later versions have been less dramatic. “The right way is reached through knowledge and wisdom. What had been a log of wood and then a puppet, he finally became a real person, after overcoming adversity presented to him.” Say that Collodi was a Mason, and that he could pretend, through the story of Pinocchio, make an allegory about the formation of people based on honor, truth and virtue. Everyone has two sides, the good side or the bad side of things. It depends on who you look at. I´m trying to visualize two sides of behavior of Pinocchio… Whatever the stories about Pinocchio… people says everybody have sin in the heart but can become angels if they wish it. So all depends on you. In this Project I want to ask to public which one would you like to be… evil or angel… or nothing at all. Material for this Project: 18 cm (H) x 16. CM (W). We like the contrast between the parties that remain as they are original and have been widely treated and manipulated. Pinocchio has been represented in a thousand different ways, so we wanted to distinguish ourself by doing the material (wood) the protagonist; after all Pinocchio is the product of a carpenter, or not? It surely would find this pretty blue fairy, living in the forest for a thousand years, the cat and the fox, hidden behind a tree on the lookout for anything out of the ordinary, and a pile of wood. Not of precious wood, but simple logs, those winter we throw in stoves and fireplaces. Deep in a forest of black paper, these characters are ready to reinvent the origins of a piece of wood, called Pinocchio. Squid&Pig https://www.behance.net/squidandpig https://www.facebook.com/squidandpig GIVE ME A WHISTLING We chose to Jiminy Cricket, Talking Cricket on the original work, as the noblest character in the story, in whatever adaptations. The voice of conscience that we’ve all had at some point in our life and that is more often ignored than it deserves. Despite having a profile 100% digital for this occasion have wanted to prove ourselves, so that we have dared to work with canvas and brush. And is that the project required an extra effort, which is well deserved. By T.W.A – Toyz Wit Attitudes www.toyzwitattitudes.com www.facebook.com/toyzwitattitudes The point of departure for our customization of Tainer Boy was built on the consciousness of Pinocchio, Jiminy Cricket concretely. We wanted to turn around the story of Disney and Jiminy Cricket has become a ghetto gangster, who took advantage of Pinocchio for enrichment rather than away from the problems. To add a touch more like a New York neighborhood, we use the name of the English version, Jiminy Cricket (J.Cricket), and add the nickname “Da Hustla” rapper slang that means someone who makes money from a not so legal way . Pinocchio on the other hand is absolutely manipulated by Jiminy Cricket, who has complete control of his “mind”, and uses it to transport the dirty money he earns from busking. At the same time, Pinocchio, makes very clear, as shown by its growing nose, that the container contents has nothing to do with the timber transport. By ARTEFACTO INC. Especially the colors, not so much serious forms such as his famous nose. The black areas of the Art Toys are intended to emphasize the other colors of the piece, increase contrast. At the same time I wanted to be consistent with my current line of work and to merge the character with skulls and big eyes characteristic of my recent customs.
