Last week we brought you news that Superplastic had teamed up with Gorillaz to produce the first Gorillaz art toy in over ten years (read HERE). A new 12-inch 2D figure was released on Thursday via the Superplastic online store.
Since Thursday, Superplastic have winged over said 2D figure to The Toy Chronicle so we can get our mitts on it. 2D arrived this morning at TTC HQ and we are thoroughly impressed. From his sweet two-tone shoes to his phallic mic to his LED light-up eyes, if you’re a Gorillaz fan you are going to want to add 2D to your art toy collection.
2D is dressed to impress. Hip with his half-mast chinos, simple tee and his wild, spiky blue hair. No socks with his shoes. Damn, son!

This 12inch version of 2D isn’t a weighty piece, so I would advise caution when handling 2D. Keep out of reach of small children & wild animals.
Let’s chat about the LED lights in this 2D Gorillaz x Superplastic art toy. As you can see from the image above, it’s a f’n cool feature, as it looks damn good all light up. The LED lights are powered by three tiny batteries that are hidden in the head of 2D, which you can access by easily removing 2D’s hairpiece and with a tiny screwdriver remove the battery cover. Pop in the three batteries (which comes with the 2D figure) and away you go! The switch to operate the LED eyes is also located under the hair. You can see how this looks in our hairless 2D images below.
We love these additional feature to the 2D figure. Adds an new dimension to the piece! It also makes 2D look a little like Sinead O’ Connor when you remove the hair, as someone pointed out to us today!
The box that 2D arrives in is super groovy with two-dimensional 2D playing in front of a Gorillaz backdrop, giving it a three-dimensional feel.
Overall, we are impressed with this collab between Gorillaz and Superplastic. We need to find 2D a forever home within our collection so we are not moving him around. I want to keep the LED eyes on all the time, as it looks fucking cool AF. We hope that 2D will be joined by the rest of the Gorillaz gang in due course. I am imagining the whole band with LED eyes. *drools*
