I’ll be honest, I’m not usually into the big-ass monster style soft vinyl releases out there in the Designer Toy world. They have never really fitted into my collection. Yet, that seems to have changed in recent times. I’m going to account this change to my friendship with James Groman, as well as the guys at Xpanded Universe. Over the last few years my heart has fallen in love with the likes of King Korpse and Metal Sloth (and more recently with Behemoth Metal Sloth). Whilst I may never get the chance to own a King Korpse, I do now look at getting in at the ground level of new releases that capture my imagination and that is why I have backed the Kraken Kickstarter release by Motley Miscreations!
As you can see from the image above, this new soft vinyl release is an absolute beast at 12inches tall! Taken from a painting by Motley Miscreations, where a Kraken creeps up on an unsuspecting diver, Motley has sculpted something that would give respect to his original painting, but also fit the new format of a soft vinyl figure appropriately. Now we are left with the Kraken!
It looks like most of the work for the Kraken is completed, as you can see from the below images, so that should make things go much smoother once the Kickstarter campaign finishes. The campaign has already hit 200% of the $6000 target and it still has 30 days to go!! Fuck yeah! We are getting Kraken!
The Kickstarter itself starts at $20 for a 2inch Diver figure, which is great starting point. It gives something available for the smaller budgets that wants to support the campaign. Big fans of this. There is a second Diver available, this time a double cast (as seen below) for $75. This will have a GID Glow-in-the-Dark inner skeleton!
The Kraken soft vinyl figure starts at $175, and that comes with the 2inch soft vinyl Diver included.
If you want to get the Kraken plus the double cast resin Diver (also the soft vinyl Diver too), you can do so for $250.
There are 10 pledges where you can get a painted Kraken by the man himself, Motley Miscreations for $300.
You can also get involved in the Artist Customs too, where WonderGoblin, Uhh Sure Monsters, Mark Nagata, Klav9, Jay222 and Evil Dave will be doing their business once the Kraken is produced. These are $425.
