AllRightsReserved presents MEET Andy Rementer PROJECT “Downtown” Sculpture Series unveiling

First-ever sculptures based on signature curves in solid three dimensions! Rementer has previously made waves with his angular People Blocks series, the “Downtown” series marks the first time he has recreated his signature curvy style in solid three dimensions.

The new sculptures “SPRING”, “HENRY”, “COOPER”, “PEARL”, “ELIZABETH” are loosely inspired by characters who appear in his paintings. Being able to view the characters from every angle, has also inspired him to look at his own work and characters in a new and exciting way.

Following last month’s releases of Yue Minjun’s “Genesis” home collectible
and Erik Parker’s FUTURE collection,《MEET PROJECT》by AllRightsReserved continues to curate innovative creative projects, this time featuring renowned American artist Andy Rementer.《MEET Andy Rementer PROJECT》 presents an original limited-edition sculpture series titled “Downtown”, where five colourful characters seem to have stepped directly out of the artist’s oil paintings to take on a new dimensionality.

Long-awaited curvy sculptures recall Downtown Manhattan Seven years after his popular People Blocks in 2013, Rementer is thrilled to bring his vibrant
characters back to life in sculptures, as his paintings often feature sculptural figures that are oversized, curvy and colorful. Timelessness and reflection are qualities that he attempts to convey through this new series, which brings a fresh sense of monumentality to his cast of characters.

New York City is an endless source of inspiration for Rementer. He created the series while living there and named the sculptures after some of his favourite streets. “Cities and characters are two very big influences on my work. I like to think of the “Downtown” characters as all perhaps living in the same environment. Maybe they are people or observed moments one can encounter while walking through my imaginary city,” Rementer explains. He imagines running into some of them,
perhaps at a coffee shop, on the subway, or at a park. He wonders about the stories that connect them: an afternoon break, a pet bird, a guitar serenade, all open to interpretation throughout the series, creating a nostalgic and pensive mood that permeates his work.

Escaping from contemporary chaos
During this time of social distancing, Rementer’s creative routine has significantly changed. He really misses drawing in crowded coffee shops and people-watching while travelling. Fortunately, the “Downtown” characters exist in a world free of pandemics, a calming alternate universe. These
crystallized slices of life can offer an escape from our often chaotic environment, reminding us to enjoy the moment.

Each hand-painted sculpture is limited to an edition of 50. For enquiries, please contact DDT Store at [email protected].
