How to Custom Colour the Nathan Jurevicius Dunny

After seeing the talented team over at the San Francisco Kidrobot shop, with various colours of the Nathan Jurevicius Dunny on their Instagram we wondered how it was done.

So without asking I just figured it was either coloured in with sharpie or food colouring….. and was I wrong.

I didn’t actually try out the Sharpie method, but I did go and buy some food colouring, guess what, didn’t work at all the colour. The colour just didn’t stick on. So having wasted a few pennies and hopefully a recoverable Dunny, I bombarded KRSF for more information. They kindly told me some tips and I am  here to share.

So lets begin the fun.

WHAT YOU NEED

  • Nathan Jurevicius Dunny or any other
  • Fabric dye for hand use
  • Salt
  • Around 4 cups of water
  • Bowl
  • Paper towel

  1. Get your Nathan Jurevicius Owl or any flocked toy, make sure it doesn’t have any dust of fluff on the toy
  2. Using rubber gloves dissolve dye in warm water (I used around 3 tea spoons)
  3. Add 1 tea spoon of salt to the water and stir
  4. Get you Dunny and submerge in the dye
  5. Nathan-Jurevicius--drowning
  6. leave it in the dye for around 20 minutes and then flip it the other side for a further 20 mins (only if its not fully submerged)
  7. Using a paper towel let it stand dry with the paper underneath

(After two Dunny’s I found that soaking them too long will lead the flock to thin and some to come off)

Some of the marking on the ears has faded and some detail is not as clear but still worth making I think? Am I classed as a customiser now? HaHaHaHa have fun everyone.

Thank you Kidrobot San Francisco for putting up with all my questions.
