Kidrobot brought us the Dunny and the Munny. We welcomed them in to our homes with open arms. Today, Kidrobot announced that they are bringing Phunny to the krew, ready for us to love like no other.
Kidrobot tells us that Phunny will full of creeps, monsters, and frights softened to huggable absurdity, Phunny plushes use Kidrobot’s legendary quality and warped worldview to shake-up the plush category!

The first wave of Phunny will be introduced with an adorable array of Gremlins characters including Gizmo, Stripe and Mohawk. Keep these out of the light, don’t give them any water, and never feed them after midnight!
We can’t wait to see what Phunny turns out like. What are your thoughts?
Who doesn’t love Gizmo!
I’m very interested to see how these guys come out. But do we really need another cheaply made gremlin plush?? Can we not come up with something a bit more original? It’s great that such a big brand is acknowledging ‘plush’ as a legitimate art toy platform, but I feel that it will harm ‘plush’ artists like myself. They’ll be churning these out at such a low price point, us bespoke plush makers already have a hard enough time justifying our ‘fair’ prices.
I do question whether these can actually be viewed as ‘Art toys’/’designer toys’….. Something has gone wrong somewhere and it’s a real shame that it’s all about the quick buck and less about ‘Art’…. I’ll leave it there. 🙂
It’s a good question, Paul. Hopefully folk will still want the more bespoke plush pieces from the likes of yourself and Raar etc, when it’s quite clear where the quality of the work stands. I don’t think that releases such as this will have a huge negative impact. Perhaps opening the door to more as folks get more in to plush. I wouldn’t worry about this too much 🙂
